Sound performance – Gisle Nataas.
Friday, 13th October 2023, time: 18.00, at Vega, Salongen.

Sections/EMBT
I will perform a new sound work composed of sounds from three different projects by architect Enric Miralles from Barcelona. This is a premiere for an upcoming installation at the Fundació Enric Miralles, which will open in November.
Briefly about the pieces: “The sound performance consists of field recordings from three selected Miralles Tagliabue projects: Igualada Cemetery, Mercat Santa Catarina and the iron sculpture named Heaven. The projects represent three different scales, concepts, context, space and material – in some ways its represent architecture from life, city, through landscape to death”.

Nataas, an architect and sound artist, bridges the visual and the aural, offering a fresh perspective on how we perceive and interact with our surroundings. This unique fusion of architecture and sound promises an immersive and groundbreaking artistic encounter.

“You attach deep memories to the sound of your surroundings,” says architect Gisle Nataas.
“Architecture as an instrument” is about using architecture and surroundings as instruments.
“By becoming aware of sound, we can become aware of architecture, materials and surroundings. We can look at our everyday surroundings with new eyes ”.

Gisle Nataas – architect and sound artist Born in Bergen and lives in Oslo. Graduate architect from Bergen School of Architecture and Royal Danish Academy – Architecture – in Copenhagen. Works with architecture and the sound of architecture. As a sound artist, Nataas works with field recordings from architecture, live performances and sound installations.
