Sound performance at Drammen Støyscene / Saturday 25 November 2023 I played together with trumpeter Torgeir Wergeland Sørbye at Drammen Støyscene – Union Stage in Drammen. Exciting to improvise live with field recordings from Barcelona with beautiful sounds from Torgeir’s trumpet and a saw blade with microphones on it. Torgeir played the trumpet with a newly made oak mouthpiece.
Briefly about Torgeir Wergeland Sørbye: aka Dr. Symptosizer, Electrophorus or Hypnokraut currently works as a doctor. He has always immersed himself in the musical and harmonic universe through various genres, instruments and sound sources. Has experience from various ensembles, from traditional to experimental concepts. He is part of the jazz trio “Blue haze” and the avant-garde prog rock band “Panzerpappa”. In recent years, he has been concerned with wood design and discovered the mysterious sounds that can occur in the workshop if, for example, you bump into a larger circular saw blade. In combination with his passion for music and the exploration of sounds, he has turned his own trumpet mouthpieces out of wood. The tone gives different associations to what you normally get with classic metal mouthpieces. For this project with Gisle Nataas, he will use a circular saw blade and improvise on a jazz trumpet from the 40s with a Norwegian oak mouthpiece.
