LOOP FESTIVAL 2023 BARCELONA

Sections/EMBT
The sound installation Sections/EMBT at Fundació Enric Miralles shows sounds of field recordings derived by four selected EMBT projects: Mercat Santa Catarina, Igualada Cemetery, Kálida Sant Pau Centre and the sculpture Heaven. These represent different scale, context, space, and material representing life, city, landscape, and death. The Sound installation is a part of the LOOP-festival 2023 in Barcelona.

The field recordings have been artistically processed by architect and artist Gisle Nataas and assembled into an installation where all the layers play together in a complex sound composition. The installation is a cut through time, scale and place and representing life, humans, material, and unique stories. The sounds define the immateriality of EMBT project in terms of sound, interpretation, and association for the audience.

About LOOP festival
For its 21st edition, the LOOP Barcelona video creation festival continues its networking efforts with artists, curators, and local and international institutions. An extensive programme awaits, encompassing exhibitions, screenings, performances, and discussions scheduled at various city venues from 14 to 24 November, 2023. In this edition, the projects curated and produced by LOOP explore topics such as historical, collective, and personal memory; the crisis in our ecosystems caused by human activity; the reimagining of art history through showcasing the work of female artists; the ways in which urban and rural spaces are inhabited and transformed; the impact of technologies on our everyday lives and self-perception; and, of course, reflection on the audiovisual medium itself through experimental practices.
LOOP also continues to uphold its commitment supporting the work of young artists and curators by commissioning special projects for the festival. Furthermore, it encourages audiovisual production through its video creation awards and fosters discussions between private and public collections to allow for novel interpretations. LOOP would like to once again express its gratitude for the invaluable collaboration and input from the city’s museums, art centres, and galleries that have taken part in the festival, enabling it to showcase the tapestry of moving images it has weaved.
