Bøler library 50 years
Bøler library has a birthday! There has been a library at Bøler since 1962. For the first ten years, the library was located in Bøler center and shared a building with, among other things, a bank and post office. On 18 December 1972, our beautiful architect-designed library building was erected. The building was designed by Sverre Fehn (1924–2009). We who work here are so proud of this architectural gem, and now we invite everyone to join us and celebrate our birthday for a whole week! On Friday afternoon in the anniversary week, the focus will be on architecture. We especially welcome all those interested in architecture, libraries and art!
Architect and sound artist Gisle Nataas performs “Fehn/5”: Sound performance based on field recordings from Storhamarlåven museum by architect Sverre Fehn completed in 1974, performed in Bøler Library by architect Sverre Fehn completed in 1972. A meeting between two of architect Fehn’s important projects. Sounds from Bøler library’s architecture are also incorporated into this performance.
Mari Gudim Torp, section manager at Deichman Bøler, briefly introduces the process by restoring the Bøler library in the spirit of Sverre Fehn. In recent years, several changes have been made to both the facade and the interior.
